Dublin, Calif. – More than 20 members of the Parks Reserve Forces Training Area community commemorated Holocaust Remembrance Day at PRFTA’s Community Activity Center, April 29, 2022.
The event was an opportunity to pay respect to those who perished in the Holocaust as well as to celebrate the lives of those who survived according to Robert Weinzettle PRFTA’s Director of Family Morale Welfare and Recreation, who organized the Cultural Observance event.
“We were very fortunate to have Rabbi Raleigh Resnick, from the Chabad of the Tri-Valley in Pleasanton, to be our guest speaker,” said Weinzettle.
Rabbi Resnick spoke to PRFTA’s community about the importance of never forgetting the Holocaust but also the importance of each individual in the world.
“I was very inspired,” said Charquilla McGaffeny from PRFTA’s Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization and Security (DPTMS). “As an African-American, understanding what Jewish people suffered in the Holocaust and the importance of Civil Rights, you realize that we are all equal under god.”
“I loved what Rabbi Resnick had to say,” said Monique Jones who was in attendance. “I didn’t want him to stop talking, he kept my attention the whole time. I loved the fact that he goes into schools and engages the students and audiences to learn more. He made it a very educational event. “
After speaking to PRFTA at the event, guests enjoyed a lunch provided by a local restaurant and Challah bread provided by Rabbi Resnick who blessed the meal.
“I thought today’s Holocaust Remembrance Event went very well,” said Jose Rodriguez, PRFTA’s Deputy to the Garrison Commander. “The Rabbi’s message of taking care of each other is so very impactful.”
“What Rabbi Resnick said was very empowering, especially helping us reflect on the past so we don’t repeat those actions in our future.
PRFTA’s Holocaust Remembrance Day event was one of the many special observances held on PRFTA each year. The events are an opportunity for the garrison community to celebrate and honor different cultures and groups.
