KABUL, Afghanistan - International Security Assistance Forces traveling in a convoy near Kabul rendered medical aid to five Afghan civilians who were injured after their vehicle slid out of control due to poor road conditions Nov. 23.
"As a partner to the Afghan people, these ISAF service members did exactly what they are supposed to do," said Lt. Col. Todd Vician, an IJC spokesman. "Protecting Afghan civilians and providing for their safety and security is our top priority. This traffic accident is a perfect example."
Among the wounded were two adult males, two adolescents and an 18-month-old infant who was unconscious when ISAF service members arrived. Immediate medical care was provided at the scene and ISAF forces provided ground transportation to the ISAF North KAIA hospital at the Kabul International Airport.
According to medical professionals at the hospital, as of late Tuesday, four of the passengers in the vehicle were expected to be released Wednesday. One of the passengers died of severe trauma.
