The Air Force has many programs in place to strengthen morale including the Air Force Unite program, which serves to create unit cohesion by offering and funding teambuilding events for squadrons.

The program was created in 2018 to empower commanders with funding for recreational programs and activities to revitalize the squadron and encourage Airmen to build better relationships with one another.

“The Unite program is free money for units to go out and build some camaraderie, improve morale and resiliency, and overall have some fun with their fellow co-workers,” said Chief Master Sgt. Luis Reyes, 325th Mission Support Group senior enlisted leader. “I encourage units to aggressively take advantage of this program.”

Unite funds can be used on 325th Force Support Squadron morale, welfare and recreation organized daytrips off the installation and other activities that the base has to offer through outdoor recreation, as well as activities hosted at off-base businesses that are approved by the program.

“The program has over $65,000 available to be used by Dec. 15, 2022, and I want every last penny spent,” said Christy Lingenfelter, 325th FSS community cohesion coordinator. “It’s time to hit the ground running.”
Lingenfelter heads the program at Tyndall and assists commanders with the paperwork needed to get funding approved in addition to providing education.

“I brief all unit commanders and leaders about the Unite program’s background, guidelines, program changes, and finances,” said Lingenfelter. “I assist and advise squadrons on developing recreational programs, coordinate submissions for approval of Unite events…and account for all funding and receipts.”

However, both Lingenfelter and Reyes expressed that they wished more units would take advantage of this resiliency and teambuilding opportunity.

“The program is an underutilized asset on the installation,” said Reyes. “I would hate for the Air Force to stop offering this program due to lack of use if it doesn’t meet the intended need and properly maximize allocated resources.”

Commanders can utilize the Unite program to encourage growth, provide memorable experiences and improve quality of life for Airmen across the installation.

“Having fun enhances work productivity, increases confidence, builds trust, improves communication and reduces stress,” said Lingenfelter. “Witnessing the relaxed smiles and laughter from the event participants is my favorite part of the job. I am truly passionate about doing all I can to improve the quality of life for our Tyndall Airmen.”
