EBBING AIR NATIONAL GUARD BASE, FORT SMITH, Ark. - Scott W. Manamon, 123rd Intelligence Squadron superintendent, was promoted to the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, in a ceremony held here, Saturday, Apr. 2, 2022.
Chief Master Sergeant is the highest enlisted rank and is held by less than 1 percent of the enlisted personnel in the Air Force.
Lt. Col. Casey Eubanks, commander of the 123rd Intelligence Squadron (IS), presided over the ceremony and left Manamon with these charges.
Eubanks said, “Deliberately develop our Airmen into enlisted leaders of the future. Maintain Air Force standards and hold others to the same, including myself. Help move barriers so our Airmen can effectively execute the mission. Focus on turning poor into average, average into good, good into excellence, excellence into outstanding. Evaluate and then repeat.”
A native of Bourne, Massachusetts, Manamon enlisted in the United States Navy in 1986. He first served as an active duty steelworker with the Seabees, stationed at Port Hueneme Naval Base, California. In 1989, he transferred into the United States Naval Reserves in Newport, Rhode Island, where he served three years. During his Naval time service, Manamon deployed to Sicily, Japan, Bahamas, Western Samoa, Fiji and Papua New
Guinea. In 1992, Manamon transferred to the Massachusetts Air National Guard to serve at the 102nd Fighter Wing as an Avionics Systems Specialist with the 101st Fighter Squadron as a traditional guardsmen. He worked at Senior Aerospace Metal Bellows in Foxboro, Massachusetts as a Manufacturing Team Leader for six years before accepting a full-time position as an Avionics technician with the 102nd Fighter Wing in 2004.

In 2008, he transferred into the 101st IS during their 102nd Intelligence Wing conversion and cross-trained as an operations intelligence specialist. Manamon served in a full-time active Guard/Reserve position and volunteered for extended Temporary Duty assignments to Langley Air Force Base, Ramstein AFB, Bolling AFB.
While serving as an operations intelligence specialist, from 2008 to 2014, Manamon earned his Associates Degree in Avionics Systems Technology and Intelligence Analysis from the Community College of the Air Force.
Manamon was selected for the Thomas Flynn Award in 2008, the 2015 Massachusetts Outstanding Airman of the Year, the 2015 Massachusetts Air National Guard Noncommissioned Officer of the Year and the 2020 188th Intelligence Surveillance Reconnaissance Group Activity Employee of the Year.
“I have been fortunate to have crossed paths with so many great people in my life. Throughout my career, many have guided me, corrected me, helped me to be the man who I am today,” said Chief Manamon. “This is the reason why I am able to stand here and celebrate 31 years in the military, and being able to be promoted to Chief Master Sergeant. I couldn’t have done it on my own.”
Chief Manamon went on to highlight the experiences and knowledge he has gained since joining the Air Force and the 123rd.
“I am extremely grateful and honored to be able to serve as a senior enlisted leader of the 123rd Intelligence Squadron,” said Manamon. “I take great pride in the position, the seriousness that you have afforded me, Sir, and assume the role with great seriousness and commitment.”
