FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. – Members of federal legal and law enforcement teams recently visited the post to enhance their understanding of the U.S. Army and Fort Campbell as a strategic partner.
The visitors represented organizations including the FBI, U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Magistrate Judge, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Federal Public Defender for the Middle District of Tennessee.

The day started with a gathering at 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) Headquarters, where the teams met Col. Stephen Shrader, 101st Abn. Div. chief of staff, who presented the “Welcome to Fort Campbell” briefing.

Shrader gave an in-depth overview of what Fort Campbell has to offer, the units stationed on the installation, and the daily training and operations that are conducted. The brief ended on a note addressed to the community of Fort Campbell, Clarksville, Oak Grove, and surrounding areas.

“The united effort of the community is the culture that creates the Fort Campbell experience for both the Soldier and their Families, and that experience is a special one,” Shrader said.
Following the briefing, the group boarded UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters for a flight to The Sabalauski Air Assault School.

At TSAAS, the leadership team provided the group a lesson about air assault culture and the classes offered at the school that includes air assault training, pre-Ranger, rappel master, and Pathfinder.
The guests took advantage of the rappel tower after seeing a demonstration of each rappel technique offered at TSASS including fast rope, lock-in, and Hollywood.

They then toured the Fort Campbell Criminal Investigation Division, the Provost Marshal Office, and the Auxiliary Courthouse. Once inside the Auxiliary Courthouse, the group received an infantry squad display of essential battle equipment of Screaming Eagle infantry units provided by Soldiers of the 1st Brigade Combat Team.

The tour concluded with a briefing from Maj. Albert Merkel, special assistant U.S. attorney, 101st Abn. Div., on how the courthouse processes crimes and hearings at Fort Campbell.

“The Fort Campbell community is special,” Merkel said. “It’s integrated into Clarksville and Hopkinsville, which makes it different. I think it’s important to bring our partners on base to show them what makes this place so special, so they know exactly who and what they are supporting.”
