Thinking of continuing your service at Fort Belvoir? Security guards needed, hiring fair set

The Fort Belvoir Directorate of Emergency Services hosts mass hiring events to get more people to serve as Department of the Army Security Guards, here.
The next event, at Belvoir’s Barden Education Center, is from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. March 24.
Working as a security guard as a career choice can be rewarding and has competitive benefits, according to Amber Flores, physical security chief at Belvoir DES.
“There’s also a need for more guard personnel in the National Capital Region, because there’s often a high turnover in the area,” she said. “Many use this job as a stepping stone and move on, which leaves us almost always needing new team members.”
“Security guards, especially those with prior military service, continue to serve the community by ensuring the safety of those who serve,” she said.
Aside from the hiring event, there is open, continuous hiring for security guards who have Veterans preference.
“Veterans can be determined qualified on the spot at one of our events and begin the hiring process then, with the proper paperwork,” Flores said. “Most have time working in patrols, at a forward operating base or on a base.” She added there’s a 10 percent retention bonus, for those who stay in the position for a year or more; and chances for career progression in the job.
Non-veteran civilians can also apply, if they are equally qualified for the position. Also, family members and spouses who are 21 or older can also register at the hiring fair.
“We really want as many people as possible to apply, or attend one of our hiring fairs,” Flores said.
