Spring is in the air. The 174th Attack Wing hosted their first career fair of year at Hancock Air National Guard Base on Friday, March 4.

Students from various schools in the area attended the fair who may be interested in pursuing a career in the military. Students talked with experts to gain a better understanding of each career field and to broaden their knowledge of what the 174th Attack Wing has to offer.
174th Attack Wing recruiters were at the event to answer any questions students may have and also explain what the New York Air National Guard has to offer.

“It’s rewarding to seeing so many young adults engaged in a conversation with a unit member whose passionate about their job, said Staff Sgt. Thaddeus Sitnik, production recruiter with the 174th Attack Wing. “Everyone in the conversation is listening so intently to the other that it creates an atmosphere of interest for everyone around.”

The four hour event focused on introducing a variety of career fields, to include public affairs, security forces, engineering, communications, force support, information technology, intelligence, logistics, security forces, and fire protection to community members potentially interested in a career within the New York Air National Guard, specifically here at Hancock Field.

Each career field had Informational “booths” set-up with subject matter experts. Here students were allowed to ask questions and to gain a better understanding.

John Miller an instructor for digital technology at BOCES in Oswego County, New York said “the purpose of the visit was to give the kids a perspective of what was out there.”

“These events keep getting better,” said Staff Sgt. Sarah Pietricola, production recruiter with the 174th Attack Wing, and schools are getting more comfortable coming out here. “I appreciate everyone’s consistent support.”

This time around there were over 130 attendees. Every career fair has increased with attendance.

“We have never had a career fair that has had less people then the time before,” said Pietricola. “Even if it’s two more people than the last time, it has always increased.”

The recruiting office plans on hosting the career fair three times per year, and hopes with each year it brings a larger number of attendees, and hopefully recruits.
