CAMP HUMPHREYS, Republic of Korea– Volunteer work is a service that cannot be underappreciated in its significance. In order to thank its volunteers, the 2nd Infantry Division/ROK-U.S. Combined Division hosted an awards ceremony for its most distinguished volunteers March 8, 2022 on Camp Humphreys, Republic of Korea.
The “Battalion Spirit of the Warrior Award” and “2nd Infantry Division/ROK-U.S. Combined Division Outstanding Spouse Volunteer of the Year” awards were presented to Mrs. Amanda Nguyen, the “Heart of the Battalion Award” was presented to Mrs. Heather Coyle, and the “Heart of the Brigade” was presented to Mrs. Tina Dougher. These awards were presented to the recipients by Maj. Gen. David Lesperance, Commanding General of the 2ID.
“It is wonderful to be recognized by the people around me, but it’s also a testament to the team around me,” said Nguyen. “This truly was a team effort, and I’m just glad it can be recognized in some way.”
Nguyen, Coyle, and Dougher earned the awards through a collective total of over 2000 hours of volunteer work including assisting military families within the 2ID, helping organize events for community betterment, and helping promote further volunteerism within the 2ID. Nguyen was also recognized for her efforts in helping strengthen the bonds between Soldiers and their Korean counterparts by organizing community and team building events.
