Family, friends, Soldiers, and distinguished guests attended the retirement ceremony for Command Sgt. Maj. Fidel Zamora Jr. March 5, 2022 at Papago Park Military Installation.

Zamora entered the United States Army on August 3rd, 1989, serving his country on active duty for ten years. On January 7, 2000, Zamora joined the Arizona Army National Guard; where he has dedicated 22 years of respected service to his fellow citizen Soldiers and their great state.

Zamora’s long career saw him fulfill many roles, including Brigade Operations Sgt. Maj. with 158th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade, Command Sgt. Maj. 158th Infantry Battalion, Command Sgt. Maj. with 198th Regional Support Group, Senior Enlisted Advisor for Joint Task Force Arizona, Command Sgt. Maj. of the Arizona Army National Guard, and most recently Senior Enlisted Advisor for the Arizona Army National Guard.

“Thank you for allowing me to serve as your senior decision maker,” said Zamora. “At first, I was a little reluctant, only because I felt it might be time for me to serve outside of the military, but thank you for allowing me to build a great team.”

Zamora’s most recent role as the Senior Enlisted Advisor has built many relationships within the state. The Adjutant General, Brig. Gen. Kerry Muehlenbeck, who has known Zamora for many years throughout her career reminisces about his conduct and contributions to the organization and people.
“You know, it's hard to say farewell to somebody that has been a pillar of perspective, who has modeled faith, vulnerability, and strength, all in the same breath,” said Muehlenbeck. “I don't want to say goodbye, we'll say farewell. You're always part of this Arizona National Guard family please don't be a stranger. The National Guard, your country, and your state owe you a depth of gratitude, so thank you so much.”

Zamora’s wife, children, and extended family were in attendance, memories and stories were shared, gifts were exchanged, and many thanks and gratitude were heart felt as Zamora said his farewell.

“It is always about the people,” said Zamora. “America's sons and daughters of all races, nationality, creed, religion, ethnicity, sex and family status coming together. I'll take these memories with me as I retire, and I'll take moments throughout my life to remember. It gave me the opportunity to better understand and care for others. My battle buddies to my left and my right pushed me to better myself technically and professionally so thank you.”

Command Sgt. Maj. Fidel Zamora Jr. will be greatly missed and his dedication to the state of Arizona, this great nation, and his development of leaders at all levels will leave a lasting impact on the organization for years to come.
