Editor’s note: “We are The 908th” is a 16 part series, running biweekly, detailing the workings of the various units in the 908th Airlift Wing. This is part 14, giving insight on the 908th Security Forces Squadron.
The 908th Security Forces Squadron is the ground combat force and military police service of the 908th Airlift Wing. The squadron is under the command umbrella of the 908th Mission Support Group.
The 908th SFS protects, defends, and fights to enable the rest of the 908th Airlift Wing’s mission success.
Commanded by Capt. Michael Vinzinski, the squadron’s mission is to, “provide fully trained and equipped combat ready forces executing integrated base defense and provost services anytime, anywhere.” Their vision is to have, “postured to execute force protection in a fourth generation warfare environment. Recognized by Coalition, DoD, sister services, and AFRC as an outstanding unit through continuous exceptional performance in all assigned mission areas.”
To reach that mission and vision, the unit has three priorities: ensure safe return of deployers, prepare for any unforeseen contingencies, and support defender families where needed.
In order to accomplish those priorities, the squadron takes its roughly 80 members and divides them into two sections, the combat arms training and maintenance section and the four 13-member squads.
“The combat arms training and maintenance section is responsible for weapons training for all deployers and members of the 908th Airlift Wing,” explained Vinzinski.
“Then we have four 13-person squads,” said Vinzinski. “Each 13-person squad is comprised of three four-person fire teams and a noncommissioned officer as a squad leader. Squads train to deploy and support expeditionary AF missions.”
