DETROIT ARSENAL, Mich. — Jan. 6, 2022 — In a promotion ceremony on Jan. 4, Maj. Kinard Egleton, Inspector General for the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command, received a brevet promotion to lieutenant colonel.
According to Maj. Gen. Darren Werner, TACOM commanding general, who promoted Egleton, the promotion was the Army’s way of confirming its faith in the exceptional talents and abilities of Egleton and his future potential.
Brevet promotions are just one part of the Army Talent Management program. The 2019 National Defense Authorization Act approved 770 brevet positions. The 2019 NDAA allows the Army to temporarily promotion officers in junior grades in brevet billets to the higher rank and receive pay and benefits commensurate with the brevet position grade when assigned to a critical position. The program is also a way for the Army to attract and retain talented Soldiers.
Egleton, a Citadel graduate, joked during the ceremony that he now outranks his twin brother, Kimard, who is also an Army major and Citadel grad. “During the holidays, there were several times when my brother referred to me as ‘sir.’”
Egleton was joined during the ceremony by his wife, Lavon, who thanked Werner, TACOM Command Sgt. Major Jerry Charles and others in attendance for “taking such good care of her husband.” Lavon, who has known Egleton since high school, said that she appreciated the Army’s commitment to its Soldiers and that she enjoys being an Army wife and sharing this journey with her husband. She continued by saying how blessed she felt.
The newly minted lieutenant colonel ended the ceremony by stating, “I am truly grateful for the promotion because I believe the U.S. Army is the greatest team in the world. To be recognized as a leader on this team will only further motivate me to work hard day in and out to ensure our organization succeeds.”
