FORT STEWART, Ga. – The “Maintain Battalion,” 703rd Brigade Support Battalion, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division, conducted a consolidated clean-up and turn-in of excess material on Dec. 6 in preparation for executing the Regionally Aligned Readiness and Modernization Model. Over the past few months, the brigade support operations transportation office in Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 703rd BSB, 2nd ABCT, worked with battalions to move, consolidate and turn in over 45,000 pounds of the brigade's excess scrap metal, wood, parts and equipment.

“The removal of the excess equipment, trash, parts and supplies from our footprint is critical to the modernization effort," said Lt. Col. Harley Jennings, commander of the 703rd BSB, 2nd ABCT, 3rd ID. "The excess is an anchor that pulls energy from the organization’s leaders and Soldiers to affect efforts in other areas critical to the ReARMM process."

During the consolidation and movement of the excess material, the brigade SPO office ensured that all materials had been properly distributed, labeled and loaded onto pallets for future Defense Logistics Agency truck movements. DLA trucks are ordered as materials and assets become ready to move.

"We are charged with the proper stewardship of equipment which is critical to keeping the American people's trust in the military," emphasized Maj. Josh Petrus, the brigade SPO officer for the 703rd BSB, 2nd ABCT, 3rd ID. "Responsible turn-in is integral to maintaining that trust. The work done by the Soldiers optimizes organizational energy into other modernization efforts."

The 703rd BSB stands ready to support the brigade and division as modernization efforts intensify.

“Working with the other battalions within the brigade, we have been able to provide a fully functional excess yard to prepare the brigade for modernization,” said 1st Lt. Brandon Warner, brigade SPO transportation officer in charge for the 703rd BSB, 2nd ABCT, 3rd ID.
