Sailors in San Angelo Give Back on Thanksgiving

Our Daily Bread Soup Kitchen is an organization run by employees and volunteers that provides meals to 175 or more needy San Angelo residents daily. Typically, IWTCM Detachment Goodfellow Sailors volunteer on one Saturday a month, but staff and students wanted to give back to those in the most need during the holiday, so they worked with the organization’s staff to prepare and deliver meals for over 200 community residents. Cryptologic Technician (Collection) 1st Class Waylon Lehrman coordinated the event with Our Daily Bread and led the Navy team in preparing Thanksgiving dishes including: turkeys, hams, green bean casseroles, and desserts. Cryptologic Technician (Collection) Seaman Apprentice Grace Viagbo, a student going through the Navy Analysis and Reporting Course said, “To be able to help out the soup kitchen and those in need on Thanksgiving was a rewarding experience. A lot of people don’t have the opportunity to eat a nice Thanksgiving meal, so giving back to the San Angelo community was very nice.” IWTC Monterey Detachment Goodfellow is aligned under IWTC Monterey. As part of the Center for Information Warfare Training domain, they provide a continuum of foreign language training to Navy personnel, which prepares them to conduct information warfare across the full spectrum of military operations.
