PACIFIC OCEAN – The Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group (ABECSG) successfully completed integrated, multi-domain operations and demonstrated its commitment to training and strengthening its capability to maintain America’s advantage at sea, Friday.
The strike group, commanded by Rear Adm. J.T. Anderson, includes flagship USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), commanded by Capt. Amy Bauernschmidt; the squadrons of Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 9, Carrier Strike Group (CSG) 3 and units from Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 21.
ABECSG underwent a myriad of trials that tested every core warfare area through simulated and live events, which included flight operations with CVW 9’s carrier-based aircraft, underway replenishments, damage control and firefighting drills, and integrated training with a Naval Special Warfare Special Boat Team to practice and refine tactics that integrate NSW capabilities with fleet operations.
“Throughout this rigorous training cycle, the entire strike group proved their warfighting proficiency and professionalism,” said Anderson. “We are strong, agile, focused and ready to win decisively from the sea. It is an honor and privilege to lead this innovative and resilient group of warfighters."
This underway training significantly enhanced the strike group’s versatility and capability to conduct sustained at-sea operations, deter aggression and preserve freedom of the seas.
“Day-in and day-out our Sailors and Marines demonstrated their ability to handle any mission set,” said Bauernschmidt. “I have every confidence in the preparedness and capability of this team.”
During the NSW portion of the training, personnel helped with over-the-horizon targeting and directed combat aircraft's action in close-air support. To extend the ABECSG reach, NSW forces employed multi-mission combatant craft, allowing operators to get closer to simulated enemies and send the real-time operational picture back to decision-makers on the ship and beyond.
