    NSA Annapolis Earns Region Installation Excellence Award

    WASHINGTON (NNS) - Naval Support Activity (NSA) Annapolis has been selected as the Naval District Washington (NDW) Installation Excellence Small Installation Award Winner, Nov. 18.

    NSA Annapolis was judged on its mission support; energy management projects; environmental conservation; short enterprise innovation; quality of life/moral; fire and emergency management; security; safety and health; conservation efforts; facility improvement; property stewardship; communications and public relations.

    In an email, Commandant, Naval District Washington, Rear Adm. Michael Steffen, announced the winners and congratulated the installations for their outstanding leadership, exemplary efforts, and focus that resulted in their win. He also congratulated NSA Annapolis and its Sailors and civilians for being selected as the NDW Safety Excellence Award Winner and nominee for the CNO Shore Safety Award.

    NSA Annapolis’ noteworthy accomplishments included spearheading a precedent-setting development of a 3D Virtual Environment to visualize sea-level rise adaptation and flood mitigation measures in real-time and space. The Military Resilience Project will combat Sea Level Rise with data collection to support the development of a 3D visual elevation model. This project is the only one of its kind in the Navy.

    While still enduring a pandemic, NSA Annapolis Morale Welfare and Recreation (MWR) continued to provide opportunities for engagement virtually for NSAA and U.S. Naval Academy (USNA) families, staff, and active duty. They seamlessly pivoted to virtual programming and drive-through activities.

    “This was truly a team effort,” said Homer Denius, Commanding Officer of NSA Annapolis.NSA Annapolis. “ I am extremely proud of the way our team continued to advance the mission in support of the U.S. Naval Academy in spite of the challenges of COVID-19. Those advancements included community plans in liaison with city, county, state, and other entities to address sea-level rise, as well as facility sustainment, restoration, and modernization. and enhancing safety programs across all functions of the installation.”

    Selected as Naval District Washington Installation Excellence Small Installation Award Winner, NSA Annapolis will now compete for the CNIC Installation Excellence Award facing other regions around the world.
