The Air Force announced Oct 30, the nomination of Maj. Gen. Kurt A. Cichowski, Air Force Special Operations Command's vice commander, for appointment to the rank of lieutenant general and assignment as Central Intelligence Agency's Associate Director for Military Affairs.
"It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the vice commander of AFSOC," said Cichowski. "Our Air Commandos are responsible for the success of AFSOC's mission. It has been an absolute pleasure to serve with some of the finest Airmen in our service as a member of our overall joint team."
Cichowski has served as AFSOC's vice commander since November 2007. Born in Columbus, Ind., he was a 1977 Air Force Academy graduate. He has served as a commander at the group, wing, and Task Force levels throughout the Air Force. He also served as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Strategy, Plans and Assessment for Multi-National Force-Iraqi, during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Cichowski will pin on after Senate confirmation.
Air Force Special Operations Command is a major command of the U.S. Air Force and the Air Force Component of U.S. Special Operations Command. AFSOC provides Air Force Special Operations Forces for worldwide deployment and assignment to unified combatant commanders.
