    Airman Corby: Supporting Checkered Flag

    FL, UNITED STATES

    11.18.2021

Story by Airman 1st Class Anabel Del Valle

    325th Fighter Wing

Team Tyndall has an outstanding Airmen to highlight for their part in Checkered Flag. Airman 1st Class Nicholas Corby, 325th Operations Support Squadron weapons and tactics intelligence analyst, has only been in the Air Force a little under two years, but that doesn’t stop him from playing a vital role in this iteration of Checkered Flag.

As a weapons and tactics intelligence analyst, Corby and the rest of his flight are constantly providing base leadership with intelligence updates which can be critical in combat.

“Knowing our adversaries tactics, techniques, and procedures is key to making an exercise like Checkered Flag or a real-world combat scenario successful,” explained Corby. “We could train all day, every day, but if we do not train for what the adversary is preparing for, we will not be completely ready to fight.”

Corby is especially motivated for Checkered Flag 22-1, as it allows him to put his training to the test with an air-to-air combat exercise.

“Exercises keep our unit mission ready by showing us where our weaknesses and strengths are,” said Corby. “Our whole flight will be able to take this experience and apply it to our future exercises and training which makes us a more ready force. The ability to [participate in exercises] helps us remain flexible and able to adapt to different mission requirements.”

Large scale exercises such as Checkered Flag 22-1 involve months of planning and preparation, but Corby believes caring leadership is also important to make the exercise run smoothly.

“Leadership’s ability provide daily examples of what good leadership is significantly improved my morale and the desire to complete the job the best I can,” said Corby. “The leadership from the bottom to the top is phenomenal, they never fail to answer questions and care for those under them.
