We welcome Lawrence Hamilton to USAACE’s Quality Assurance Office!
He comes to USAACE from 1st Battalion, 13th Aviation Regiment, where he was an Air Traffic Control instructor and training developer. As a developer, he wrote lesson plans for important new equipment as it came into the Army, including the Air Traffic Navigation, Integration and Coordination System, the Tactical Airspace Integration System, and the Mobile Tower System. He has enjoyed teaching in the classroom—taking the lifelong lessons he learned and passing that knowledge on to AIT students, and seeing them grow and develop.
He previously served on active duty in the Army for 20 years as an air traffic controller, including deploying to Desert Shield/ Desert Storm with the 101st Airborne Division: He was one of the first 3,000 regular Soldiers on the ground, and conducted the initial setup for the Aviation side of air traffic control for the Army. While working at King Fahd International Airport in Saudi Arabia, they did more than 900 movements in a single 12-hour shift.
An experience from his active duty career that stands out to him was when he was previously stationed at Wiesbaden, Germany. He was selected to supervise a special heliport in Normandy, France, for the 50th Anniversary of D-Day commemoration, as approximately 200 flights of leaders and dignitaries flew in and out. Now, whenever he sees the movies that depict D-Day, it reminds him of the somber experience of visiting the National Cemetery in Normandy, and other historic sites.
He enjoyed his time in uniform, and believes the Army gave him tools needed to progress in life.
After taking career progression classes provided by USAACE, he felt prepared when an opportunity opened up in Quality Assurance, something he always wanted to do. He is learning the processes, and appreciates the leadership and mentorship from the QAO team. Going forward, he looks forward to being the ‘eyes and ears of the commander’ and working with everyone at USAACE.
