380 ELRS moves Al Dhafra

Staff Sgt. Ryan Mammone, ground transportation dispatcher with the 380th Expeditionary Logistics Readiness Squadron's deployment and distribution operations team here, helps coordinate a lot of moving parts. He and his fellow dispatchers coordinate the movement of service members and cargo to and from aircraft and around Al Dhafra Air Base, where he's currently deployed.

"Between driving distinguished visitors, running a shuttle for service members on base, or getting cargo and packages on and off planes, ground transportation is an important part of the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing's mission," Mammone said.

Stationed at Shaw Air Force Base, South Carolina, Mammone is currently on his third deployment, where he looks forward to improving his physical fitness and taking courses towards his CCAF degree to advance himself when he's not on duty.

His advice to first time deployers is to stay busy when they're off duty.

"Get out of your room, get off base, go on trips and spend time with friends to help get your mind off the time and distance between you and home," Mammone advised.

Whether it's taking day trips off base, participating in community events on base or spending time with friends, he finds staying busy to be the best way to stay mentally strong.

The 380th Expeditionary Wing conducts combat operations directed by the president in support of contingency operations to protect national interests in United States Central Command's 27-country Southwest Asia area of responsibility. The Wing maintains multiple aircraft in order to provide combat air power in joint and combined aerospace operations with Army, Navy, marine Corps and Coalition forces.
