Commanding Officer Capt. Ben Miller announced the Naval Facilities Engineering System Command (NAVFAC) Northwest Fiscal Year 2021 Sailors of the Year Nov. 3.
Construction Electrician First Class Jerry Randall was selected as Sailor of the Year and Builder Second Class Brandon Rivera was selected as Junior Sailor of the Year.
Randall is recognized for his duties as Leading Petty Officer and Engineering Technician for Public Works Department Kitsap where he demonstrated unmatched leadership and technical skills. As Leading Petty Officer, he led 18 Sailors in both personal and professional development resulting in numerous qualifications, awards, and advancements earned by those under his charge. As an Engineering Technician within FEAD Bremerton, he managed quality assurance and safety oversight for two projects valued at $47 million, ensuring uninterrupted shipyard operations while enhancing integration with Naval Base Kitsap and its 70 tenant commands.
“This is a huge honor that I am very proud to accept,” said Randall. “It's not so much as a testament to my work or anything, it's all about the troops and how I couldn't have gotten here on my own. I understand how having the support of not just the military but our civilian counterparts as well is absolutely critical to being successful. I couldn't have done this without my wife having my back and being there for me in so many different ways.”
Rivera demonstrated remarkable technical knowledge and provided expert leadership during the completion of numerous projects in support of Naval Base Kitsap. In addition to providing consistent guidance and mentorship to his fellow Seabees, he took lead in training the crews on project package development, safety plan development, and Quality Control plan development. As an Engineering Technician within FEAD Bremerton, he was assigned to two priority projects valued at $2.9 million and conducted countless safety and quality assurance inspections which directly contributed to the successful completion of both projects.
“Being selected is an honor and a privilege that means a great deal to be one of the very few to be selected,” said Rivera. “It shows that hard work and Dedication does not go unnoticed.”
