Fort Meade community members lined up to get vaccinated at Kimbrough's drive-thru flu vaccine clinic at the McGill Training Center, Fort Meade, Maryland, Nov. 9.
Kimbrough staff teamed up with Garrison Directorate of Emergency Services to host the first drive-thru vaccine clinic where all Department of Defense eligible members six months and older received their flu vaccines. The line formed quickly as the clinic opened its doors at 9 a.m.
“We were ready to go early but didn’t expect to have this strong turnout,” said Lt. Col. Atia Mbah, chief of public health nursing, Fort Meade Medical Department Activity. “At the end of the day, we provided nearly 700 flu vaccines to the Active Duty Service Members, Civilians, and Family Members.”
Mbah also commented that there were multiple accolades from community members praising Kimbrough staff for their proficiency and professionalism.
This was the first of the two-day drive-thru flu vaccine clinic at the McGill Training Center. The second drive-thru clinic is scheduled on Saturday, 20 November from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., where staff is expecting another robust turnout.
Additional indoor flu vaccine clinics are also scheduled next week at the McGill Training Center:
• Tuesday, November 16, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
• Wednesday, November 17, 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Flu vaccines are offered to all DoD ID card holders. Per CDC guidance, COVID-19 vaccine and other vaccines, like the influenza vaccine, may be co-administered without regard to timing.
