Defense Department Support to FEMA COVID-19

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – At the request of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, one team of approximately 20 military medical personnel deployed to Montana to support civilian healthcare workers treating COVID-19 patients in one city at one hospital.

This team joins four other teams currently working in four locations – one in Idaho, one in Utah and two in Washington. U.S. Army North, under U.S. Northern Command’s oversight, will provide operational command of the team.

“While COVID cases and associated hospitalizations are in decline in some places across the United States, they are still a concern in the West,” said Lt. Gen. John R. Evans, Jr., ARNORTH commander. “Our military medical experts are in Montana to support our local, state and federal partners and civilian hospital personnel there, who, along with the whole-of-government, are working tirelessly to defeat the pandemic.”

The team of military medical personnel, who are from the U.S. Navy, include nurses, respiratory therapists and medical doctors. They are supporting Billings Clinic Hospital in Billings.

ARNORTH is the joint force land component command of USNORTHCOM.
