Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak C-130 aircrew drops supplies to stranded hunters

    EMMONAK, AK, UNITED STATES

    11.04.2021

Story by Petty Officer 1st Class Ali Blackburn

    U.S. Coast Guard District 17

A U.S. Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak aircrew rescued seven hunters, November 4, 2021, who initially became stranded nearly a week ago while on a hunting trip near Emmonak, Alaska.

The aircrew, aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, successfully hoisted and transported the hunting party, six adults and one teenager, to awaiting emergency medical service personnel in Nome.

We’d like to thank our partner agencies, including the Alaska State Troopers, the Alaska Coordination Rescue Center and the U.S. Army 52nd Aviation Regiment, for their efforts and coordination all week to help get the hunters safely home to their families.

The aircrew overcame adverse weather and mechanical issues while operating in a remote location, but managed to effectively troubleshoot their issues and successfully complete the mission.

No injuries were reported at the time of the rescue.
