NASHVILLE, TN – The 105th Attack Squadron (ATKS) recently celebrated its 100th anniversary, and their Airmen honored their now century-long legacy of service during the squadron’s 100th anniversary gala October 29, 2021 in Nashville, Tennessee.
The squadron gained federal recognition on October 21, 1921 and was originally founded by World War I veterans who wanted to push the envelope into the new technology of the time, aviation warfare.
“This unit was founded by aviators who were doing things that had never been done before,” said Lt. Col. Justin Hamilton, commander of the 105th ATKS. “We are still doing that now by our innovation, and our willingness to continue to push the envelope.”
Today, the 105th ATKS uses cutting-edge technology and innovation to define itself. With the implementation of advanced unmanned aerial aircraft and modern intelligence capabilities, the 105th ATKS continues in the steps of their predecessors by bringing state-of-the-art technology and Airmen to the fight.
“Our greatest ability is our availability, we are always here and we are ready,” said Hamilton. “Our people are our greatest asset, and our people have a culture of excellence.”
The impact of the 105th ATKS is global in its effectiveness. Since its inception, to the present day, the squadron has been called upon to support nearly every major contingency the United States has been involved in. It shows the effectiveness of the unmanned aerial vehicle platform, the Airmen who operate them, and their readiness for future missions.
“This is the future of warfare,” said Hamilton “We will be here, and we will be ready.”
