William Toney, 16, son of 1st Space Brigade’s Capt. Lisa Toney, a space operations officer with 2nd Space Battalion, recently won the Boys and Girls Club of America’s Military Youth of the Year award for Peterson Space Force Base.
As can be expected, mom is one proud parent.
“It’s quite a blessing and honor to see my son growing into his own identity,” said Lisa. “William is quite the outstanding young man with many extracurricular activities that are leading him down the path to become successful with a bright future.”
William is a cadet in the Civil Air Patrol and intends to attend the University of California Los Angeles to become an engineer someday. He also runs track, plays football and basketball, and volunteers at his local church.
“My parents have instilled in me that hard work and determination pays off,” said Will. “ I am thankful for how my parents raised me because they made to the person that I am. Seeing both of my parents serve taught me great values and hard work, every day. I am glad to represent them and my community, and I am excited for what the future holds.”
The MYOY celebrates youths, ages 14 to 18, for their commitment to community service, academic success, good character and citizenship, and establishing long-term goals.
