Dyess Air Force Base, Texas --
The 7th Force Support Squadron Longhorn Dining Facility reopened on April 1, 2021 at Dyess Air Force Base, Texas, after undergoing a $1.6 million dollar upgrade.

After the renovation, the DFAC received multiple new renovations. A fire suppression system has been installed in the kitchen, the cold prep room has been refurbished, the interior walls and floors have been modernized, and the Prisoner of War table has been revamped.

“The realignment of our kitchen layout and operational flow have yielded some good results,” said Tech. Sgt. Leigh Pears, 7th FSS DFAC manager. “The environment is safer to work in. Quick tangibles are faster turnaround of our batches of main entrees and food support for kiosk operations. We’ve reduced dwell time for food products, giving customers fresher hotter products, and slashed additional traffic getting food to the line for the customers.”

DFACs are the primary source of meals for enlisted dorm members of the U.S Air Force. It is also an essential part of keeping the warfighter healthy and mission ready.

“We’re proud of our facility and being the premier food venue here at Dyess,” Pears said.

There are specific policies in place to ensure Dyess personnel can safely receive food from the facility. Hand sanitizing stations are placed throughout the customer areas, the six foot social distancing will be enforced with no more than four people per table, and to-go meal options and bottled beverages are available.

Due to the ongoing battle with coronavirus, the DFAC has strict safety protocols to safely feed personnel. Dining room tables are socially spaced, touchless hand sanitizer stations have been installed throughout the facility, and masks are enforced while not eating.

Grab and go items have been individually packaged and all self-service bars have been shut down to mitigate the risk of spreading COVID19.

“The new options at the DFAC have been pretty good,” said A1C Curtis Balko, 436th Training Squadron videographer. “I am glad I have a spot to grab food closer to my dorm room again.”
