NAVSUP Fleet Logistics Center (FLC) Norfolk, Site Naval District Washington and Aviation Support Division (ASD) Washington at Naval Air Facility (NAF) Andrews recently passed their Supply Management Inspection (SMI) with a grade of excellent.
According to the NAVSUP FLC Norfolk, Site Naval District Washington Operations Officer Lt. Jay Knox, an SMI is performed to assess overall supply readiness and verify proper adherence to rules, regulations and requirements.
He attributes their success to collaboration between the ASD Washington logistics team and the warehouse operations team that prioritized the integrity and validity of inventory to effectively support the command’s mission partners.
“At the end of the day, if our inventory is not accurate, they cannot complete the mission,” he added. “We owe it to them to do our best every day.”
The team prepared for this inspection by first inspecting themselves, performing a series of examinations and wall-to-wall inventories. These efforts contributed to 100 percent inventory accuracy during the SMI.
According to Site Director NAF Washington Tina Simmons, preparations for an inspection like this are more a reflection of day-to-day efforts than preparations made for when the inspectors arrive. The priority given to supporting the command’s mission partners and maintaining what she calls ‘an impeccable warehouse” were seen in their SMI grade.
“The effort we put in to provide outstanding customer service every day keeps us inspection ready,” she added. “We have excelled in effectively attracting and retaining a high-caliber workforce to accomplish the mission and it gives me great pride that our team never fails to go above and beyond the call of duty.”
Knox singled out the efforts of Chief Logistics Specialist Jorge Rueda and Omar Anderson for their efforts in the proper receipt of materials and strict adherence to instructions governing their efforts.
“Passion, commitment, teamwork and a desire to excel coupled with leadership are the components of this remarkable team at NAF Andrews,” said NAVSUP FLC Norfolk, Site Naval District Washington Deputy Director Tye Bentinck. “I am humbled and honored to be a part of this outstanding team.”
