FORT EUSTIS, Va. - The U.S. Army Center for Initial Military Training welcomed Brig. Gen. John Kline as he assumed command during a ceremony at Fort Eustis Oct. 14, 2021.

Gen. Paul Funk II, the Commanding General for U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command, presided over the ceremony.

In addition to commanding CIMT, Kline will also serve as the TRADOC Deputy Commanding General for Initial Military Training and as the Senior Army Element Commander for Joint Base Langley-Eustis.

In his remarks, Funk said he is confident Kline is the right leader to take on these critical roles.

“You are now leading the team that transforms 150,000 civilian volunteers each year into professional Soldiers,” said Funk. “You are responsible for this mission, but you’re not alone. You are joining a world-class organization with incredible Soldiers and civilians who are professionals in every sense of the word.”

Kline said he was grateful for the opportunity to command a unit focused on taking care of the Army’s most important resource, Soldiers.

“I’m thrilled to take on a mission that is focused on improving individual Soldier readiness across the Holistic Health and Fitness spectrum as well as the leaders who conduct this critical mission,” said Kline. “It goes without saying that commanding a unit singularly focused on people as our priority is something all of us are passionate about, and I’m motivated to get after it.”

While it is typical for a command’s colors to be passed from an outgoing commander to a new commander, USACIMT previously held a relinquishment of command ceremony for Maj. Gen. Lonnie Hibbard, who had to depart the command early for his new position with U.S. Forces Korea.

USACIMT is the Core Function Lead for TRADOC for all initial entry training. USACIMT leads the synchronization and management of initial military training and education to transform civilian volunteers into Soldiers who are disciplined, fit, combat ready and who increase Army readiness at the first units of assignment.
