FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa. – The 213th Regional Support Group welcomed a new command sergeant major during a transfer-of-authority ceremony at Fort Indiantown Gap's Strickler Field on Sept. 17.

Command Sgt. Maj. Andrew Campbell, who will transition to senior enlisted advisor to deputy adjutant general-Army Col. Laura McHugh, transferred responsibility for the enlisted members of the 213th RSG to Command Sgt. Maj. Marc Weiss.

“I want to thank you for this tremendous opportunity,” said Weiss. “Soldiers of the 213th: I ask that you maintain a genuine love for the Soldiers on your left and right flank. It’s not an easy task, but we don’t do anything by ourselves.”

To symbolize the transfer of responsibility, a ceremonial sword was passed from Campbell, to 213th RSG commander Col. Angelo Catalano, who then passed it to Weiss.

Campbell, who has advised three Group commanders in his time as command sergeant major, spoke to the formation, guests and family members with gratitude to his family and fellow Soldiers about all they accomplished during his four years as Group command sergeant major.

“You have all heard me talk, I’m sure, about that patch on your left arm,” said Campbell. "It means something; every day you put that uniform on, you’re representing the 213th Regional Support Group, you’re representing the state of Pennsylvania, and you’re representing yourself, so remember that."

The 213th Regional Support Group has a lineage that traces back to the "Lehigh Fencibles," organized in August 1849 in Allentown. The unit was then reorganized less than a year later as the "Allen Rifles," who later responded to President Abraham Lincoln’s call for troops to defend the national Capitol in Washington, D.C., at the outbreak of the Civil War.

Since then elements of the 213th have participated in nine major conflicts: the Civil War, War with Spain, World Wars I & II, Korea, Gulf War, Kosovo, Operation Iraqi Freedom, Operation New Dawn and Operation Enduring Freedom.

The 213th Regional Support Group consists of more than 20 specialized units located throughout the state. The units that represent the 213th RSG include finance, maintenance, medical, personnel, sustainment, transportation, contracting and public affairs.
