GREAT FALLS, Mont – Air National Guard Command Chief Master Sgt. Maurice Williams visited the 120th Airlift Wing, Montana Air National Guard Sept. 12, 2021.

With more than 33 years of ANG service, Williams was selected on Oct. 9, 2020 to become the 13th command chief of the ANG. Williams serves as the highest-ranking enlisted member of ANG and as principal advisor to the director of the ANG.

Williams met with Airmen from the 120th AW during the visit to discuss his priorities, Airmen development and to provide an open dialogue with the Airmen. Williams emphasized the need for the ANG to accelerate change or lose.

“We have to create a culture where Airmen understand they can make a decision to help change the process,” said Williams. “They have to be in a work environment where they feel comfortable to speak up and make the decision so we can execute the mission.”

As the ANG command chief, Williams is directly responsible for all matters influencing the health, morale, welfare, job satisfaction, discipline, utilization, family support, quality of life and professional development of more than 107,700 Air Guard members.

Williams leads the enlisted side of the ANG and promotes the importance of ready forces, people and the health of the force.

“One of the things I do when I travel and speak to Airmen is give them a strategic view of what is going on in the nation, the Air Force and the Air National Guard,” said Williams.

This was Williams’s first visit to the Montana ANG where he learned about the wing’s operational capabilities and contributions to the nation’s security.

“It was an honor to showcase the 120th Airlift mission and the Airmen who make it possible to Air National Guard Command Chief Williams,” said Chief Master Sgt. Amber Westie, 120th Airlift Wing command chief. “This visit allowed our Airmen to see their direct impact at the National Level.”
