TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. – The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers awarded the fourth rebuild Military Construction project contract to build Tyndall Air Force Base’s new 325th Fighter Wing Headquarters facility.
On July 28, 2021, the almost $24.6 million contract was awarded to B.L. Harbert International for a two-story 27,265 square-foot facility. The award also includes a $6.4 million bid option for a second building for the Sexual Assault Prevention Response, or SAPR, facility, upon fiscal year 2022 National Defense Authorization Act implementation.
“Like all of our planned MILCON projects, this new facility will ensure Tyndall Airmen have the environment and the tools needed to continue executing the mission for our Air Force and our nation,” said Col. Greg Moseley, 325th Fighter Wing commander.
The headquarters facility will house front office staff and additional support operations including Protocol, History, Inspector General, Information Protection, Public Affairs, Safety, Plans and Programs, Command Post and a Crisis Action Team. The second facility will provide administrative space for the SAPR, Sexual Assault Prevention Coordinators, Special Victims Counsel, Complaints Resolution and the Equal Employment Opportunity offices.
“The 325th Fighter Wing Headquarters project will accommodate wing command level mission requirements and increase efficiencies for the installation,” said Milea Franklin-Webb, project manager for the Natural Disaster Recovery Division at Tyndall.
These facilities are being built to withstand 170 mph hurricane-force winds – greater than that of Hurricane Michael, the category five hurricane that devastated Tyndall AFB in 2018. Construction for this project is expected to reach completion in February 2024.
The nearly $5 billion rebuild at Tyndall AFB will be a five-to-seven-year-long process, which includes over 40 new Military Construction projects and 260 Facility Sustainment Restoration and Modernization projects.
