MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. –

Outdoor Adventures is a great way for Moody Air Force Base Airmen to participate in activities such as swimming with manatees, kayaking, skydiving, deep sea fishing and more.

Lisa Viar, an Outdoor Adventures recreation assistant, helps organize trips around the Georgia and Florida areas with the funding and resources from the Recharge for Resiliency program.

“We get our funding and that covers a huge piece of the money so Airmen don’t have to pay as much,” Viar said. “[We] open up an opportunity for Airmen to do things like ‘bucket list’ activities. [Airmen] might not have the chance to explore an activity because they would have to spend a lot of money on their own, but it is more affordable through our program.”

Most activities can be expensive, but through Outdoor Adventures, Airmen can experience new things, escape the dorms and meet new people while keeping their cash in their pocket.

“To the people that say there is nothing to do around here, I would have to disagree,” said Senior Airman Brandon Wright, 23rd Logistics Readiness Squadron personal property technician. “I had the same mindset until discovering Outdoor Adventures, and since then, I have been skydiving, deep sea fishing, hog hunting and whitewater rafting. I even got to swim with manatees.”

The events and activities are year-round and offered to all Department of Defense ID card holders, their spouses and children. Although some activities do have age restrictions or requirements.

“If you’ve never been on a trip with outdoor adventures, I would highly encourage you to,” Wright said. “The trips are affordable, always fun and transportation is provided.”
