JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Air Force Installation Contracting Center, in coordination with the Air Force Civil Engineer Center, awarded Pool 1 contracts July 30, 2021, as part of the $2 billion Architect-Engineer Next program consisting of four contractor pools.
The contracts, awarded by the 772nd Enterprise Sourcing Squadron, support the Air Force’s worldwide design and construction mission.
Pool 1 contracts are a joint partnership between AFICC, AFCEC, Air Force Foreign Material Sales and the U.S. Army Installation Management Command and cover planning and services for airfield infrastructure, including runways, taxiways, aprons, landing zones and ancillary facilities.
Under Pool 1, 14 contracting firms will provide the Air Force with planning, design, construction inspection and other engineering services to help accelerate installation readiness with resilient and sustainable airfield infrastructure.
“We’re excited to award Pool 1 of the AE Next contract suite, which will provide Air Force installations access to designers specializing in airfields and associated infrastructure. This is a valuable capability to assist in maintaining and recapitalizing our most critical assets,” said Dr. Tim Sullivan, chief of AFCEC’s Technical Services Division.
The contract suite is available to the Air Force enterprise as well as U.S. Army IMCOM. For AFCEC, Pool 1 contracts will support programming services and design for construction efforts at installations around the globe.
“AFCEC industry partners play a key role in AFCEC’s ability to provide resilient infrastructure to the Air and Space Force,“ said Col. Dave Norton, deputy director of AFCEC’s Facility Engineering Directorate. “AE Next is a valuable tool to help our installations get the CE expertise they need in a wide variety of design and construction disciplines.”
AFCEC, who oversees the Air Force’s military construction program, continues to work with AFICC to award the remaining two pools in the AE Next program. The work includes facilities across installations in the United States (Pool 2) and general infrastructure installation-wide across the United States (Pool 3). AFICC awarded Pool 4 contracts of the AE program to 17 contracting firms in February.
AFCEC’s Facility Engineering Directorate is overseeing this and the remaining awards and is working with contractors on execution of services to ensure they are delivered on time and within budget.
