NAVFAC Southwest awards $53.2 Million Rocket Motor Test Facility Construction

SAN DIEGO – Naval Facilities Engineering Systems Command (NAVFAC) Southwest awarded Harper Construction Company Inc. a $53.2 million firm-fixed-price task order, June 10 in San Diego, under a multiple award construction contract for construction of the rocket motor test facility at Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake.
“The continued efforts to restore full mission-capability to NAWS China Lake has been sizeable, and each award draws us nearer to our objective,” said Eley DeCuba, NAVFAC Southwest contract specialist.
Harper Construction Company Inc. is scheduled to complete work that provides for the construction of operational test bays, warehouse space, and a water system to support the Navy’s research, development, test and evaluation of rocket motor capabilities by spring 2024.
Harper Construction Company Inc. will perform repairs to the water system and install new water storage tanks to provide three new firing bays with processed water for rocket motor firing tests and ancillary functions. One of the firing bays will provide large rocket motor static firing test capabilities. The other two firing bays will test small to medium-rocket motor capabilities. A 4,000 square-foot warehouse will be constructed to store test equipment, and existing decommissioned structures will be demolished under this project.
NAVFAC Southwest is the contracting activity.
