SILVERDALE, Wash. -- The Blue crew of Ohio-class ballistic missile submarine USS Henry M. Jackson (SSBN 730) conducted a change of command ceremony at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor, June 17.

Cmdr. Allen Agor, from Virginia Beach, Virginia, relieved Cmdr. Nathan Luther, from Sacramento, California, and assumed the duties and responsibilities of commanding officer for the Henry M. Jackson Blue crew.

“Cmdr. Luther led his team with amazing results. His time in command culminated with his crew being awarded the Submarine Squadron 17 Battle ‘E’ for 2020 and U.S. Strategic Command’s Omaha award winner for 2020," said guest speaker Capt. Charles “Chas” McLenithan, commodore, Submarine Squadron 17. "This is a crew that sets the standard not just in performance but in influencing the standards on our waterfront."

Luther assumed command of Henry M. Jackson's Blue crew Nov. 16, 2018.

"Since I was a teenager, what I have found gives me the most satisfaction in life is being a part of a winning team. You [all] are the best team I have ever been a part of," said Luther. "Your desire to be the best and how much you care about each other is the foundation for every good thing that has happened during my tour. I will always be a proud ‘Defender of Freedom.’”

Luther's next assignment will be Deputy Commander, Submarine Squadron 17.

Agor comes to Henry M. Jackson Blue from Commander, Submarine Group 9, where he served as operations officer.

"My favorite part of this job is being part of a crew. I have been amazed at how readily you all have accepted me as part of the Henry M. Jackson family," said Agor. "I am ecstatic to be your commanding officer."

Henry M. Jackson celebrated 36 years since its commissioning in October 2020. The submarine is one of eight Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines homeported at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor. It is the only U.S. Navy ship to be named after United States Senator Henry M. Jackson and the only Ohio-class submarine that is not named after a state.
