Story by Staff Sgt. Divine Cox

    36th Wing

Senior Airman Crystal Guevara works as an allergy and immunizations technician at the Andersen Air Force Base Medical Clinic. In her current position, she provides care to 6,700 joint service beneficiaries and oversees a $1.2 million vaccination inventory.

During her time at Andersen AFB, she has led three mass influenza shot lines and executed over 22,000 vaccinations. Guevara's efforts enabled the 36th Wing to capture the number one Influenza rating in the Air Force two years straight and led to her being awarded Squadron Airman of the Quarter.

She also reorganized the immunization clinic's backup technician program, created training for 75 tasks, certified 12 medics, and enhanced competency and skills by 30%. She identified and alerted the Air Force Personnel Center of a processing code discrepancy and eliminated 974 permanent change of station delays, which saved the Air Force $1 million and ultimately led to her receiving a coin from the Secretary of Defense for her efforts.

Additionally, she supported the clinic's COVID-19 triage team where she liaised with four providers, tested 189 patients, and identified 72 positive cases. Her efforts expedited treatment and contributed to a 28% decrease in infection across the installation.

Furthermore, Guevara developed the schedule for the Wing's mass COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan, which provided education for 2,000 personnel and led to the administration of 3,000 shots. Her tremendous efforts within the clinic garnered a 99.5% Defense Health Agency inspection result, which led to her receiving a coin from the Command Surgeon Indo-Pacific Command. Not only is she doing amazing things at work, but Guevara is currently enrolled in a nursing degree program while simultaneously studying for Staff Sgt.
