FORT BLISS, TX - The 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team ‘Bulldog Brigade’, 1st Armored Division at Fort Bliss, Texas, marked the start of a deployment by casing their colors at Iron Soldier field on June 2, 2021.
The 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team will replace 1st Brigade Combat Team, 3rd Infantry Division for a nine-month rotation to support the United States’ commitment to South Korea.
“The casing of the colors which will take place this morning symbolizes that the Bulldogs have completed the training and maintenance necessary to face down any threat to our nation or our allies,” said Col. Jabari M. Miller, the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team Commander.
The very soul of a military unit is symbolized in the colors under which it fights. They record the glories of the past, stand guardian over its present destiny, and ensure inspiration for its future.
“The Iron Patches upon the sleeves of the Bulldog Soldiers will represent the bravery and commitment of all the members of Old Ironsides,” said Miller. “The late nights, the field time, the maintenance heroics all led up to that moment and have brought us to this field ready to case our colors and say farewell to Fort Bliss and the Division for a little while.”
Commanders and Soldiers come and go, but the colors will remain stead-fast. Their colors will then be uncased upon the brigade’s arrival in South Korea.
A unit’s colors serve as a binding symbol of continuity and point of inspiration for the future. Col. Jabari Miller emphasizes his gratitude towards the Soldiers and their families during his speech for all of the sacrifices and effort put forth in preparation for the rotation.
”Though the colors will be cased, the spirit of Bulldogs will be carried on in the half of our formation that doesn’t wear a uniform,” said Miller. “I am confident that the family members we leave behind will continue to make Fort Bliss a great place and welcoming the newcomers while we’re gone. We look forward to the happy occasion when we are standing on the field uncasing these same 8 sets of colors upon our return.”
