The 305th Air Mobility Wing participated in Exercise Mobility Guardian 2021, the U.S. Air Force’s largest and longest Rapid Global Mobility exercise, at Alpena Combat Readiness Training Center, Michigan, May 15 - 27.
The 305th AMW’s involvement allowed exercise participants to develop new tactical capabilities, support lean and agile teams, and make decisions with limited communications.
“The 305th AMW’s participation in Mobility Guardian allowed for aircrews and support agencies to practice and develop new tactics that support Agile Combat Employment and Mission Type Orders while using new tactical datalink capabilities,” said U.S. Air Force Capt. Andrew Kimball, Exercise Mobility Guardian KC-10 Extender lead planner. “The intent was to generate realistic scenarios that involve executing tactics that are not readily available to practice at home station.”
Throughout the exercise, the 305th AMW provided more than 158,000 pounds of fuel to multiple aircraft and delivered more than 17,000 pounds of cargo.
The biennial exercise included more than 1,800 participants who operated 18 mobility aircraft across six locations in Michigan and Wisconsin. Additionally, the exercise featured Air Mobility Command’s first large-scale integration of cutting-edge concepts to advance warfighting capabilities.
“AMC must simultaneously prepare for tomorrow’s fight while maintaining success in today’s operations,” said Gen Jacqueline Van Ovost, AMC commander. “AMC’s priorities are aligned with those of the Air Force, U.S. Transportation Command and the Joint Force, ensuring AMC is agile, aligned and capable of executing national objectives across each of AMC’s missions.”
Exercise Mobility Guardian is designed to provide robust and relevant training to develop the force. Mobility Airmen are tested through challenging, realistic and detailed scenarios based on real-world security challenges and future conflicts in turn sharpening Mobility Airmen’s readiness.
