The U.S. Senate confirmed Maj. Gen. Robert I. Miller as the U.S. Air Force and Space Force’s next Surgeon General May 26.
The Senate Armed Services Committee confirmed Miller by voice vote.
“I am humbled by the Senate’s confidence and trust in my ability to lead our warrior medics,” said Miller. “I am ready and excited to serve our Airmen and Guardians, their families and the American people.”
Prior to this, Miller served as the director of Medical Operations within the Office of the U.S. Air Force and Space Force Surgeon General. As director, he was responsible for developing and executing health care policy in support of 44,000 personnel and 76 military treatment facilities with a budget of more than $6.2 billion. Miller also directed the Air Force Surgeon General’s Military Health System Transition Cell in coordination with the Defense Health Agency.
Miller entered the Air Force in 1985 as a Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences medical student. He is board certified in both general pediatrics and developmental-behavioral pediatrics, and is qualified in aerospace medicine. Miller served as the chief of the medical staff at both the MTF and major command level, a squadron commander, group commander, a major command surgeon and as a combatant commander command surgeon.
Miller is set to be sworn in and promoted to the rank of lieutenant general on June 4.
