    143d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary)

Every successful organization needs individuals who are willing to accept challenges others would shy away from.

On May 1, 2021, six members of the 143d Sustainment Command (Expeditionary) Inspector General team rose to the occasion and raised their right hands as Brig. Gen. Pamela L. McGaha, 143rd ESC commanding general, administered the Inspector General Oath of Office to them during a ceremony at the command’s headquarters in Orlando, Florida.

As they repeated the oath, the command’s newest Inspectors General swore to “uphold the standards for Inspectors General…without prejudice or partiality.”

Brig. Gen. McGaha spoke to the Inspectors’ unique, professional qualities. “They are principled, trustworthy, objective, respectful, confidential, and courageous. I am incredibly proud of them for accepting this challenge and for the important, positive change they will make in the 143d ESC,” said McGaha. “Each Soldier has well-earned the substantial and special powers they are now granted to perform their duties.”

Since 1776, when Gen. George Washington installed the first Inspector General, commanders have relied on their specially-selected Inspector General staff to serve as his or her “eyes, ears, and conscience” and do so by performing four essential functions – inspections, assistance, investigations, and teaching and training throughout the command to improve unit readiness and warfighting capabilities.

“History was made today,” said Lt. Col. Ryan Triplett, the command Inspector General. “For the first time ever, the 143d ESC’s Inspector General Office is fully staffed.”

The selection process for new Inspector General candidates is lengthy and detailed. The positions are so important that each candidate is vetted through the chain of command up to the Department of the Army’s Office of the Inspector General. These unique requirements make having a fully staffed team, comprised of both Active Guard Reserve and Troop Program Unit Soldiers, all the more impressive.

Maj. Joselito Rodriguez, a Detailed Inspector General, expects the newest staff members to serve as examples for their peers. “We hope to keep the 143d ESC as the standard bearers for the Army Reserve by having a fully staffed and trained IG team,” said Rodriguez. “The team is readily available to serve all members within the command."
