Tiger Medics from the 377th Medical Group at Kirtland AFB, N.M., took part in an installation medical all-hazards response field exercise May 20, 2021. Evaluators said the team met the two goals of the semiannual exercise requirement, which were to have decontamination capability operational within 20 minutes of notification, and process six to 10 litter patients within one hour.

The exercise’s decontamination tent had a shower on one side for patients who were able to walk, and a separate processing area for sanitizing litter patients who weren’t ambulatory.

Some role players wore moulage, with makeup simulating wounds and injuries based on the exercise scenario. Medical practitioners conducted triage for them, evaluating the severity of their conditions and establishing treatment priorities.

William J. Blevins, 377th Medical Group medical emergency manager, praised the exercise’s NCO leadership.

“Staff Sgt. Marco Muniz, in-place patient decontamination team chief, led a great activation and decon process,” he said.
