CE Weekly Submission by SMSgt Mike Keegan and TSgt Tyler Larimer //
During a “Super Drill” in April, the 176 CES conducted a variety of trainings aimed at enhancing operations and emergency response at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson, Alaska. The Fire Department completed its training at the Anchorage Fire Department (AFD) Training Center, a state-of-the-art facility that hosts a six-story, custom-built tower for simulated search-and-rescue scenarios as well as high-angle rescue and fire-attack operations. During the training, the team conducted residential and large-area-sized building searches, firefighter-down drills, high-rise firefighting tactics, and rapid intervention team operations. While the squadron’s firefighters trained to save lives, the Heavy Equipment and Structures shops honed their Domestic Operations skills and equipment. Within 20 minutes of receiving a call that reported downed trees blocking a road, the teams were loaded up, chained down, and heading to the scene with their Debris Clearance UTC equipment. Their ability to quickly clear roadways ensures that first responders and emergency vehicles can safely arrive at the scene of an emergency. With trainings like these, the 176 CES is ready for anything!
