PACIFIC OCEAN – Vice Adm. Jeffery Trussler, deputy chief of Naval Operations for Information Warfare/Director of Naval Intelligence, and Rear Adm. Kurt Rothenhaus, Program Executive Office Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Combat Systems and Intelligence Naval Information Warfare Systems Command, visited the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), May 17.
Trussler is the principal advisor to the Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) regarding information, command and control, networks, cybersecurity, intelligence, electronic warfare, battlespace awareness and precision navigation.
Rothenhaus is the technical authority on acquisition command for Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (C4ISR), business information technology and space systems.
Trussler and Rothenhaus toured Information Warfare work centers to view state of the art equipment installed during the ships recent seven-month Planned Incremental Availability.
“Visiting Lincoln was important because we do a lot of work at the Pentagon to try to get it right to support the fleet we have now and the fleet we want for the future,” said Trussler. “To have the intelligence and combat systems officers walking me around the ship, showing me their systems and current configurations and current upgrades, helps me see the end-user perspective.”
Following the tour, the admirals the current state of operations aboard Abraham Lincoln and plans for further integration of the many systems aboard and many components that will ultimately comprise the strike group.
“I am extraordinarily impressed by what the Sailors aboard Lincoln are doing day in and day out,” said Trussler. “The Sailors are doing tremendous work out here. This is one of the nation’s crown jewels, and I’m excited to see the ship as she gets ready to work up for her next deployment.”
