FORT IRWIN, Calif. – Fort Irwin Dental Clinic Command held a ribbon cutting ceremony May 10, here, to celebrate the reopening of Shuttleworth Dental Clinic.

The clinic closed December 2019 to undergo nearly $12 million in renovations including an entirely new floorplan and modernized equipment, according to Col. Elliott Bermudez, the Fort Irwin DENTAC commander.

“This facility represents the tangible evidence of the efforts expended to provide full scope of care to the [National Training Center] and its beneficiaries,” he said.

After Shuttleworth Dental Clinic’s closure, dental services continued out of Dental Clinic 1 and trailers, but are now consolidated into one location.

Services available include general dentistry, orthodontics, pedodontics, and oral and maxillofacial surgery for Service Members and dependents 17 years old and younger.

“These opportunities are now our reality and are in a functional, beautiful and capable new clinic to serve those who lead, train and win in the effort to prepare our Army to win the war tonight,” Bermudez said.

Brig. Gen. Curtis Taylor, the commanding general for Fort Irwin and NTC spoke at the event, citing the efforts put forth by prior leaders of Fort Irwin and DENTAC.

“When we combine our valuable resources with talent and time, we’re able to see a valuable project carried through to completion and here we stand in 2021 actually getting to see our Soldiers and our great employees here at DENTAC benefit from this capability,” Taylor said. “If we don’t think beyond our own tenure … and think about the future, we will not prepare this installation for the next generation of great warriors that we know are going to continue to live and serve here throughout the century.”

The clinic’s hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays. The clinic will be closed weekends and federal holidays.

For emergency dental needs after hours, patients can visit the Weed Army Community Hospital emergency department.
