Eric Bolyn has been selected as assistant lockmaster at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Chicago District Lockport Lock and Dam, located two miles southwest of the city of Lockport, Illinois. It sits 291 miles above the confluence of the Illinois River with the Mississippi River at Grafton, Illinois.

Bolyn started his career with USACE in 2014 as a lock and dam operator at Lockport Lock, and was promoted to a shift head lock operator in 2017. Prior to his career with USACE, he served eight years in the U.S. Army Reserves as a heavy equipment operator, where he was involved in many building projects and fortifications during Operation Iraqi Freedom.

“I’m looking forward to the new challenges that will come with the new position.” said Bolyn. “I’m excited to get to work in my new role and to continue building on the great teamwork environment we have here at Lockport Lock.”

“Eric (Bolyn) brings a great work ethic and a very sound ‘safety first’ mentality into his new position,” Michael Walsh, chief, Waterways Project Office, said. “We look forward to him transitioning into his new role this week, and are all excited about the great things Eric will do. He has a very promising career ahead of him.”
