    81st Training Wing

Keesler recently welcomed the activation of the 67th Cyberspace Wing’s newest cyber training detachment on base.

The 39th Information Operations Squadron, Detachment 2, was initiated to enhance the Defense Department’s cyber warfare capabilities by enabling a streamlined training pipeline.

“We will maximize Airmen’s effective employment time by conducting a standardized modular training package prior to their arrival at their operational unit,” said Maj. Omayra Genao, 39th IOS Detachment 2 commander. “Importantly, the establishment of this dedicated formal training unit removes the burden of delivering initial qualification training by the gaining unit, allowing them to focus on executing operations.”

Synchronizing with Keesler, the detachment will be able to provide the most efficient way of training the Airmen.

“We will work hand-in-hand with the 81st Training Wing to provide exceptional cyber training to Airmen assigned to Cyber Security and Control Systems operational units,” said Genao. “By working closely with the Keesler training squadrons, we can maximize the Airmen’s employment time by providing IQT prior to their arrival at their new unit.”

The 67th Cyberspace Wing hopes to improve their training processes through the activation of the detachment.

“The activation of this new detachment formalizes the training pipeline for the cyberspace security and defense weapons systems,” said Col. Jeffrey Phillips, 67th Cyberspace Wing commander. “The training requirements and curriculum are now predictable, and we can work toward a known target to ensure we are putting the most highly-trained cyberspace Airmen into operational units.”

The development of cyber warfare training has not only been a cornerstone for a more efficient training process, but sets an example of innovation going forward.

“The 67th CW has been able to expand our formal training unit footprint and has allowed us to continue to hone the skills of our training professionals,” said Phillips. “The detachment will be a great advantage to the Air Force by alleviating the operational unit from bearing the initial qualification training burden; Airmen will show up trained on their respective weapons system and be ready to operate.”
