FORT BLISS, Texas – Winfield, Kansas native Pierce Warren was advanced to the rank of specialist in the United States Army Reserve during a ceremony at Fort Bliss, Texas, April 16, 2021.
Warren, who is a trained military police officer, currently serves as a demobilization specialist with the 647th Regional Support Group (Forward), Fort Bliss Mobilization Brigade in the operations section.
The 647th RSG (Forward) assumed authority of the Fort Bliss Mobilization Brigade in January 2021 and is responsible for managing, planning, and coordinating support services related to mobilization and demobilization. It serves as the pre-mobilization liaison for U.S. Army Reserve and National Guard Soldiers by providing administrative and logistical support prior to, during, and after mobilization.
The operations section consists of the mobilization and demobilization teams and is intimately involved with units throughout the mobilization and demobilization processes. They work long hours to ensure units have the necessary requirements and training prior to deploying into a theater of operations or returning to their home station after deploying.
“Spc. Warren’s main role within the demobilization shop is to send out unit summary sheets to deployed units in order to obtain their passenger count and point of contact information,” said 1st. Tevin King, demobilization officer in charge. “Warren also has been tasked to assist with operations at the Fort Bliss Arrival/Departure Airfield Control Group (A/DACG).”
Warren’s duties include gathering and dispersing pertinent information to service members returning from overseas deployments to assist in the demobilization process so they can return home safely.
“The favorite part of my job is knowing that I am helping others so they can go home,” Warren said. “Working long hours and late nights are a few of the challenging aspects of my job. I think in order to get the mission accomplished; you have to work as a team. I would never take credit for anything because it’s my team that keeps me motivated and keep pushing to make the mission successful.”
“Spc. Warren is one of the most hardworking and focused soldiers I met in the military,” said Sgt. Nahhaj Jones, demobilization noncommissioned officer. “He is head strong and strives for greatness in everything he does.”
Being part of a unit that has mobilized is a new experience for Warren since enlisting in the United States Army Reserve in October 2019.
“I joined the Army Reserve in October 2019 because my father and grandfather were in the military and wanted to start a career,” said Warren. “My father was in the Army National Guard and my grandfather served in Vietnam as an engineer. My father and grandfather told me funny stories from their military service, and both thought it would be a great start to my life after I finished high school."
According to Maj. Casey Wolfe, operations officer in charge, Warren has been a tremendous asset to the section and has unlimited potential.
“Since joining the RSG right after graduating advanced individual training, Spc. Warren has grown so much, he is almost unrecognizable from last fall,” said Wolfe. “He is busting with maturity and confidence and has the makings of a good future NCO. I attribute this to the mission and the comradery of the team.”
Warren considers the mobilization as an opportunity to make personal and professional improvements and plans to enroll in educational courses.
“I want to start saving money and get as much military training here as I possibly can to prepare me to become a sergeant,” said Warren. “My plan is to get as much Military Police training as I can while at Fort Bliss.”
Warren understands the importance of a healthy work-life balance and takes the necessary steps to ensure he is prepared for work daily and maintains good physical fitness. He also plans to enroll in college soon to pursue a degree.
“I work out at least two to three times a week and hang out in my room playing video games to maintain good mental and physical fitness,” Warren said.
