Weekly update on Washington National Guard COVID-19 relief efforts
CAMP MURRAY, Wash. -- Joint Task Force Steelhead, the Washington National Guard’s COVID-19 response force, continues to serve Washington communities by providing personnel and support to vaccination sites, food distribution centers, assisting medical operations, and other relief efforts across the state of Washington.
The Washington National Guard's JTF Steelhead continues to support state and county emergency managers in their unified efforts during the COVID-19 response.
During the Week of April 19 – April 25, 2021, the follow actions happened:
• 15,613 vaccines were administered by Washington National Guard medical personnel
Guard medical and support personnel administered 15,613 COVID-19 vaccines at Gray’s Harbor Franklin, Spokane, Chelan, and Clark county mass-vaccination sites. As of April 25, over 200,194 vaccines have been administered by the Washington National Guard. We continue to work in support, and at the direction, of the Washington State Department of Health to ensure that every person that wants a vaccine has access to a vaccine.
• 915,470 pounds of food and 107,769 meals were packaged and distributed
JTF Steelhead continues to support 39 food banks and distribution centers across the state. Since April 2020, we have helped package and distribute more than 90 million pounds of food.
• The Washington National Guard’s medical surge team continues to advise and assist local partners
The Guard’s medical surge team continued to plan and coordinate the movement of beds and ventilators to COVID-19 hot spots across Washington State. The Guard’s medical surge team also planned and began a move to improve isolation and quarantine facilities. This new location will provide sustainable long term facilities for isolation and quarantine operations.
Key events, week of April 19-25, 2021:
The Washington National Guard’s 8th Mobile Vaccination Team began operating in Gray’s Harbor County, starting with a mass vaccination event in Aberdeen, Wash., on April 22. This represents the Guard’s return to Gray’s Harbor County after it staffed a COVID-19 testing site there, in 2020. Mobile Team 8 will continue to operate around the county to provide vaccines to residents there.
