As of April 27, 2021, approximately 200 active duty Soldiers of the 181st Multifunctional Training Brigade have received at least the first COVID-19 vaccination shot. These Soldiers account for 90% of those scheduled to receive the vaccination.

Over 170 of the Soldiers have received both COVID-19 vaccination shots.

"It's important that I point out that all of our Soldiers that received the vaccination over the past month or so volunteered to get it, and knowing that really is amazing,” Col. Dave Woodruff, the commander for the 181st MFTB said. “Whether it has been through social distancing in the office or staying home when uncertain about possible exposure to the virus, the Eagle Brigade has continued to do its part to protect its Soldiers, family members and community."

Command Sgt. Maj. Clifton Morehouse, the 181st MFTB senior enlisted advisor, echoed Woodruff’s sentiments.

"All of our Soldiers that received the vaccine chose to do so for their own reasons, whether to protect their family members, to join the Sparta and Tomah communities in the fight against the virus, or any other number of reasons, but at the end of the day, I'm so proud of each and every one of them for volunteering," Morehouse said.

On March 2, 2021, Eagle Brigade medics were the first Soldiers to receive the COVID-19 vaccination at the Fort McCoy Occupational Health Clinic, who then in turn began administering the first round of vaccinations to the rest of the brigade on March 12, 2021, on Fort McCoy.

"I just want to thank our medical Soldiers here in the brigade, along with the medical personnel of the Fort McCoy medical site, for administering the vaccinations to the rest of the brigade,” Morehouse said. “It's because of them that I know the Eagle Brigade will continue to soar to better heights through and past the pandemic."

For both Woodruff and Morehouse, once the vaccinations became available for the brigade, there wasn’t a doubt in their mind in the confidence of the safety and efficacy of the vaccine.

"The overall health and well-being of the brigade's Soldiers is very important to Command Sgt. Maj. Morehouse and I, and since day one, we've felt confident while encouraging others to receive the vaccine because it's been shown to be safe and effective,” Woodruff said. “Together with the Department of Defense and the Department of Health and Human Services through Operation Warp Speed, and the Food and Drug Administration, I know our Soldiers health couldn't be in better hands."

Eagle Brigade Soldiers have been receiving their second vaccination shot in groups of ten to continue social distancing protocols and health considerations.
