SAN DIEGO – Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) has administered 100,000 coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccines as of April 29.

Active duty service members, Department of Defense (DoD) civilians, contractors and beneficiaries are all apart of those who received the 100,000 vaccines at NMCSD.

“As of April 19, we have reached the 100,000 COVID-19 vaccines milestone,” said Cmdr. Clayton Rau, NMCSD’s COVID-19 Vaccine Operations department head. “We couldn’t have done this without our dedicated team of corpsman getting shots in arms.”

NMCSD is one of the leading sites in administering COVID-19 vaccines across the Department of the Navy.

“I have tremendous pride in the NMCSD team for reaching this important milestone,” said Capt. Devin Morrison, NMCSD commanding officer. “The administration of the COVID-19 vaccine is a symbolic testament to heroic effort the NMCSD team has put forth since the onset of this pandemic. Although work remains, I share the hope of all that the worst is behind us.”

Being in coordination with Commander, U.S. 3rd Fleet and the United States Marine Corps has made this milestone possible.

“Our goal is to continue to vaccinate as many people as possible as quickly as possible,” said Rau. “Vaccine supply isn’t really an issue anymore.”

The doses were administered across the five point of distribution (POD) sites in San Diego. The PODs are located at NMCSD, Naval Base San Diego, Naval Base Point Loma, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, and Naval Air Station North Island.

NMCSD’s Vaccine Operations team is operating at its maximum capacity and is only limited by the amount of vaccine doses the hospital receives. Eligible beneficiaries can visit sandiego.tricare.mil to schedule a vaccination appointment.

NMCSD's mission is to prepare service members to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver high quality healthcare services, and shape the future of military medicine through education, training, and research. NMCSD employs more than 6,000 active duty military personnel, civilians, and contractors in Southern California to provide patients with world-class care anytime, anywhere.
